Automattic, the company behind Wordpress, might soon start a marketplace for wordpress themes. Not those free ones, but the ones which cost money. Good idea.
I’ll surely make use of this marketplace to sell my themes if I’m allowed to. I’m in this for money (and for the fun of making themes), and a marketplace like this would really be a good chance for independent small designers like myself to get some attention and possibly make some cash.
Only real dilemma here, is the fact that Automattic dropped all sponsored themes from their theme viewer a while ago. All sponsored themes were deleted, including all of mine. They said that is was unfair that someone should make money on Wordpress since the system in general is community-driven.
Well, now they want to make money of Wordpress themselves. I don’t blaim them, but I think it’s somewhat odd how quickly things could move around when there is money involved. Money talks, bullshit walks.
Anyway, hopefully they’ll pull this of, and get the WP marketplace up and running as soon as possible. I’m sure a site with high quality themes available at a low cost will benefit everyone.
Until it’s up and running I’ll release some themes of my own here at my blog when I got time to do it. Really a lot of work to do this month. Have to design three mayor sites for some clients, so I might not get some sleep at all until cristmas.
