BlogReview: Nate Whitehill dot Com

Posted on 20 September, 2007 by Peterandrej

Nate Whitehill is a 23-year old entrepreneur and business owner. His blog is all about blogs, business and web development. His blog is the first (of many) Wordpress-blogs to be reviewed by Peterandrej / Wordpress.

Design:
My first impression was “Wow, this is great!”. Nice header image, with lots of useful links underneath. Nate makes it easy to first-time-visitors to find something interesting to read on his blog. Mainly, visitors get a list of the most Popular articles, a chance to sign up for his newsletter and a list of the most recent articles. All above the fold. Nice. The reason for doing this is, I belive, that visitors that come from a search engine - such as Google - get a clear impression of what this blog is all about just by looking header.

Below the fold we get the content, which is placed in a classic two-column invironment, with content to the right and navigation to the left. All nicely done, with lots of icons which make it all a litte bit more “alive”.

The footer-section is mainly set of to advertisers, but we also find the categories here. Not a good solution, the categories should be in the left sidebar along the other navigational items.

Code:
Not good! Lots of errors, in fact the blog doesn’t validate in the W3C validation service, or in the W3C CSS validator. The HTML-validation failed by 109 errors, and the CSS validation failed by 16 errors.

Some of these errors are easy to fix; “Flont-Weight” should be corrected the “Font-weight” as an example. He has also forgotten to put a “#” before the color code E4EEF7. Stuff like that. Easy to fix, and Nate should fix these simple errors, no question about it.

Marketing/Success/Potensial:
Google Pagerank: 5 of 10
Technorati rank: 1504
Rss-Subscribers: 716
Alexa-rank: 45,094
Inbound Links: 2,944

Strong numbers. An Alexa-rank of 45,000 is not bad at all. After all, there are “only” 45,000 more popular websites in the World then NateWhitehill.com. A pagerank of 5 in google is not bad, but not that good either. Peterandrej.com has a pagerank of 6, as an example.

Summary:
NateWhitehill dot Com is one of the most influential blogs on the planet, in his niche. It got room for improvement, but which blog hasn’t got room for improvement? He should fix the validation-errors as soon as possible, which I’m sure he will do when he has some spare time.

Post sponsor: A good search engine optimization plan starts with web hosting and is thoroughly involved in web design itself, offering internet marketing solutions at every step. It should integrate internet phone service carefully, creating constant backup. It also makes use of the extensive wifi connections by getting more complex web designs.
