Google is a extraordinary company. When I started browsing the internet about 10 years ago, there was a lot of search engines. But today, Google is the biggest search engine by far, with about 50% of the market. Worldwide.
What is so special is that Google has managed to get a verb; to google. The verb is used by everyone, and only means that you search the web using a search engine. Even if you use a search engine like Altavista, you still might say “I’ve googled you on Altavista”. Think of it. If the same phenomenon applied for cars, you might have said “I’m Fording across the continent”, even though you drove a Toyota.
Google is extraordinary when it comes to positioning in the market of searching.
But, it is in information the real power lies. Microsoft is a world-leading company when it comes to software. But more and more people are going over to Apple or Linux. This doesn’t make a difference for Google, since both Windows-, Apple- and Linuxusers are searching the net the same way:
They google.
Google tracks what people do in the net. What people search for, what interests them, where they live; everything. This information is worth its weight in gold for advertisers. In a few years every advertisers, both small and big, will be using information from Google to find potential customers. And; the advertisers are more then willing to pay Google for information about people.
This is the strongest reason why Google is among the most powerful companies in the world. Google own information about everyone. Its within this information the real power lies. And its only Google which have it. That makes Google the worlds nr 1.
Another factor is that Google is expanding. Google is buying more and more of the most significant internet companies. Blogsoft is the worlds leading portal for bloggers. Owned by Google. And you have many examples of this. Microsoft is losing the battle of the internet to Google.
Soon Gbuy will be on the market. Compeating with Paypal. Its just a matter of time before Google is the biggest company also when it comes to handling payment over the net.
The future belongs to Google. No question about it.
